Your innkeepers are Jim Metcalf  (right) and Scott Lumry (left).

Scott is a graduate of Oklahoma State University earning a Bachelor's degree in Sociology with a triple major: Sociology, Political Science, and Social Sciences. His career field has been in Higher Education Student Housing where he has worked at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, University of Texas at Austin, University of Missouri St. Louis, and the University of New Orleans. Several of those years were in the employ of a privatized student housing organization.

It was while serving with that organization that Mr. Lumry discovered the wonderful town, and the fantastic people, of Natchitoches. It was by pure luck that, during his stay, he saw the house that is now Chez des Amís and it had a "For Sale" sign in front of it.

Scott knows how to listen to people and makes it his priority to hear what his guests have to say. "Everyone has a story and no one tells it better than the one who has lived the story. I hope you come visit us and feel comfortable enough to share yours."

A native of Houston, Texas, Jim was graduated from Lamar High School,  He earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Sam Houston State University, and a master's in botany and Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Texas A&M. University, where he was a member of the Singing Cadets and played clarinet in the TAMU Symphonic Band.  He has also done post baccalaureate studies at University of Houston, University of Northern Colorado, and U.C. Berkeley. Dr. Metcalf has studied five foreign languages and traveled in more than forty countries. He has taught at the secondary and college levels and is former dean of the American College of Switzerland. Before retiring, he served as coordinator of electronic messaging for the Texas Association of School Boards in Austin, and was an Internet trainer for the Texas Education Network (TENET).

Two of Jim's interests are culinary arts and gardening, both of which he enjoys at Chez des Amís. He also enjoys vocal and instrumental music and opera, and has played in school and university bands since seventh grade.

Jim and Scott both sang in the Capital City Men's Chorus in Austin. During their tenure with that group, they were privileged to join other choruses and perform in New York's Carnegie Hall under the direction of noted composer/conductor, John Rutter.
